The Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia announced the selection of Paul G. Mahoney as interim president of UVA, assuming the role August 11. Interim President Mahoney is a David and Mary Harrison Distinguished Professor and served as dean of the UVA School of Law from 2008 to 2016.

The board sought input from across the UVA community, with several themes emerging, including the importance of selecting a leader with an established track record, past or present leadership experience within UVA, strong academic credentials, and the ability to build trust and connections across the many constituent groups both within and outside of UVA.

I am looking forward to beginning weekly meetings with Interim President Mahoney. We have both been a part of the UVA community for over two decades and share a common love and respect for this great University. Interim President Mahoney is known to be a collaborative and thoughtful leader, and I look forward to engaging him in the goals of UVA Health, across all of our mission areas, and as we continue to make progress on our 10-year strategic plan. For further information on Interim President Mahoney, please read the full story here.

I will be communicating leadership transition updates specific to UVA Health in the days and weeks to come and look forward to your continued engagement and feedback.

Most sincerely,

Mitchell H. Rosner, MD, MACP, FRCP
Interim EVP for Health Affairs, University of Virginia
Henry B. Mulholland Professor of Medicine
