Over the past two years, the School of Medicine has worked to improve the Department (DAR) and Center Annual Review (CAR) processes for our 28 departments and 6 centers. Our focus is to align the annual review with the strategic mission areas. DARs & CARs have become more formal, more comprehensive, and a tool for measuring performance and holding leaders accountable. We also celebrate our unified successes and achievements. In late September and early October, leaders from across the School of Medicine and UVA Health, along with each of the department and center chairs and administrators, engaged in reviewing performance.

This year, we expanded our efforts to report data and develop goals across all missions. Specifically, we discussed research, education, clinical, quality, ambulatory, faculty affairs, diversity/equity/inclusion, finance, philanthropy, and compensation, among other topics.  Department and center goals were then developed for FY24 in each of these areas.

We are proud of how this annual review process has evolved. We collectively have the opportunity to imagine, create strategy, and solve problems in real time with all stakeholders at the table. Congratulations to the School of Medicine faculty and staff who participated in this year-round effort.
