School of Medicine Class of 2026 Orientation Day of Service
On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, 152 first-year School of Medicine students in the Class of 2026 gathered with their Colleges for the first annual Orientation Day of Service at 18 different service sites across Charlottesville. The event, organized by upper-level medical students Maggie Selesky, SMD23 and Elizabeth Wat, SMD24, included cleaning up local parks, hosting ice cream socials at local retirement communities, sorting donated inventory at Salvation Army, and packing educational kits for Computers4Kids. The first-year medical students were grateful for the brief break from lectures and for the opportunity to serve their community while bonding with their peers. One student said after the event, “It was so fun to be able to spend time with my classmates while also doing something meaningful together.”
