CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta recently visited UVA Health to witness focused ultrasound technology pioneered by Jeffrey Elias, MD, and film an episode of his series Vital Signs. Focused ultrasound surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that can be a game-changer for people with essential tremor, a movement disorder that causes uncontrollable shaking. Dr. Gupta interviewed Brenda Hric, a patient with essential tremor who was treated in December at UVA Health by Dr. Elias. Dr. Neal Kassell, founder of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, was also interviewed. Our team partners with the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, with a combined mission to accelerate the development of new applications of focused ultrasound and wide adoption as a standard of care.
