UVA Health has been designated as a care center by the Bronchiectasis and NTM Care Center Network, making it one of only 33 nationwide and the only center in Virginia. This significant milestone will improve the health system’s capabilities in treating and managing bronchiectasis and nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) diseases, opening new opportunities for consortium research and strengthening our commitment to advancing patient care and medical education.

The core medical team at UVA Health consists of co-directors Lindsay Somerville, MD, and Scott Heysell, MD, MPH, along with bronchiectasis and NTM experts Dana Albon, MD, and Eric Houpt, MD. This leadership is supported by an extensive team of professionals in the Pulmonary and Infectious Diseases clinics all dedicated to providing comprehensive care. The care center model incorporates advanced diagnostics, state-of-the-art treatments, and a broad spectrum of support services from respiratory therapy, specialty services, and lung transplantation.

UVA Health’s care center’s unique capabilities, including pulmonary rehabilitation, nutritional counseling, and social support services, are complemented by enhanced telehealth options, ensuring that we are able to provide support to Virginia and the wider Mid-Atlantic region.
