The School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery hosted the 97th Annual Halsted Society Meeting in September. The Halsted Society is a prestigious national surgical society which aims to further scientific principles and encourage collaboration amongst its members. The annual meetings are an opportunity for the host institution to showcase its research and history.
More than 20 Department of Surgery faculty members presented their research over the course of this four-day event and engaged with leaders in surgical innovation from across the country. Keynote speakers included UVA President James Ryan; School of Medicine Dean Melina Kibbe, MD; UVA Health Chief Executive Officer Craig Kent, MD; Surgery Department Chair Allan Tsung, MD; and Professor and Surgery Chair Emeritus R. Scott Jones, MD.
In addition to the presentations, the department hosted numerous breakfasts and dinners for the attendees and their families. The surgery department extends its gratitude to Vicki Testerman, Anneke Schroen, MD, Summer Lira, and Jenny Rector for organizing this fantastic event and surgery department faculty for presenting their work.
