Each year, the Z Society recognizes one outstanding member of the University’s faculty who has positively impacted the faculty and student body during their tenure. The award is intended to be a beacon of success and one which is given to individuals who have inspired the faculty and student body of this University. The Distinguished Faculty Award is given to those who serve as role models, confidants, and leaders.
We embrace the diversity of responsibilities and demands on our faculty, and we encourage nominations from all departments, programs, and schools. To aid you in identifying and recognizing a professor you know, the list below may guide you. Qualities of past winners of this award include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Engaged, supportive, passionate, and curious
- Exceptional contributions to the department and the Charlottesville community at large
- Shows an interest in students outside of classroom
Please submit a letter of nomination for an exceptional member of the University of Virginia’s faculty who has been incredibly influential to students and other members of the faculty during his or her time here.
