The Office of Research seeks nominations for research topics for the Anderson Symposia and suggestions for external experts who offer unique insights and perspectives. These half-day events provide invaluable opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly dialogue about cutting-edge research that has the potential to change patients’ lives.
The Anderson Symposia are supported by the Anderson Fund, established in 1955 by John F. Anderson, a graduate of the UVA School of Medicine and former director of the Hygienic Laboratory (predecessor of the NIH). Dr. Anderson was renowned for his research in serum and vaccine therapy, immunology, and public health.
For each Symposium, the host Department or Center receives a grant with a maximum of $5,000 from the Anderson Fund to supplement expenses. Typically, two Anderson Symposia are funded per year.
Submit nominations by visiting the Office for Research website. The deadline is November 1, 2024.
