Summer Medical Leadership Program 2019

2019 Summer Medical Leadership Program

The Summer Medical Leadership Program will be offered on grounds this year, for the first time since 2019! We are so excited to have this opportunity back after hosting last summer’s cohort all virtually. Our 24 students are pre-meds from underrepresented backgrounds from universities across the country. We would love for you to offer some times to have one or a few of them shadow you. If you are willing, please sign up here.

The students will be in the hospital, clinics, and off-site locations shadowing from June 30 until July 14. They all have health system badges, observation agreements on file, understand HIPAA guidelines, and Dr. Taison Bell (SMLP Director) will be their official sponsor. There is no paperwork for you to do.

If you do offer a shadowing session, please also let Leah Beard know where the student can meet you (i.e., hospital cafeteria, main lobby, ER, 3rd floor, Fontaine, Riverside, Northridge, etc.).

The SMLP team understands this has been a tiring two years, so we appreciate any time you can provide. Our summer program students would love learning from you.

SMLP is an intensive six-week residential summer medical academic enrichment program for 30 undergraduate students from underrepresented groups and disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine.  They are chosen from a nationwide pool of applicants.

SMLP is under the direction of Dr. Taison Bell, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the divisions of Infectious Disease and Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine and Assistant Director of the Medical ICU.
