Join Health Sciences Library staff for demonstrations of basic Excel features, or an SPSS workshop.

New to Excel? Join us for short, “bite-sized” demonstrations of useful Excel function via Zoom. You can attend any or all of our “Excel Bites” the sessions: all are designed for beginners. Please register for each session to receive the Zoom link.

Excel Bites: navigation basics
Learn the basics of navigating your Excel spreadsheets, including Excel tables, sorting, filtering, hide/unhide, find and replace, and freeze panes.

Excel Bites: working with text
Gain techniques to work with text more efficiently such as Flash Fill to merge data, Text to Columns to split columns, and Conditional Formatting to select data.

Excel Bites: formulas and functions
Obtain a basic understanding how formulas work in Excel and how to find basic functions.

Excel Bites: simple merging using VLOOKUP
See how to use VLOOKUP to match data and pull it from one spreadsheet into another. We will also briefly discuss the power of XLOOKUP (available only for Excel for Microsoft 365).

Excel Bites: PivotTables
Learn about the functionality of Pivot Tables to explore and summarize your data.

Excel Bites: More PivotTables and PivotCharts
Explore additional PivotTable basic functions and gain an understanding of using PivotCharts to visualize data in a graph or chart.

SPSS
This workshop is geared to those with little to no experience with statistical programming and/or SPSS. By using interactive hands-on demonstrations and exercises, this workshop will familiarize participants with the tools necessary to use SPSS for data analysis. Participants will walkthrough topics ranging from loading data into SPSS, organizing and labeling data, manipulating and creating variables, and getting descriptive information from the data. This session will be taught via Zoom: a link to the Zoom session and SPSS software information will be sent in the confirmation and reminder emails. Prerequisites: SPSS (version 26 or later) installed and properly licensed.
