Medical students presented research posters at the UVA Office for Research Medical Student Research Symposium on Friday, November 8 to showcase their work to faculty and students in the School of Medicine.
Through student research programs, medical students work with preceptors to develop skills in research approaches and techniques. Students are working in labs from nearly every department in the medical school, and tackling projects across the spectrum of laboratory, clinical, epidemiological, and theoretical areas. The fall symposium allows students to present their work for comment and encouragement from faculty and peers. The presentations this year highlighted the breadth of research occurring throughout the School of Medicine.
Based on student demand, the Medical Student Research Symposium was expanded last year to double the number of spots available for students to showcase their work. This year, 81 students participated in the program. This level of participation and enthusiasm from the next generation of biomedical researchers was encouraging for all to see.
