The School of Medicine Office for Research is currently requesting applications from departments to use the Equipment Trust Fund (ETF) to purchase shared instrumentation. All applications should come from the chair or center director. More information about the shared instrumentation program can be found on the SOM website (ETF Shared Instrumentation). Departments can download an updated ETF request form on this page as well. All applications will be received via InfoReady.
The Research Advisory Committee will review all applications and recommend an annual budget for the program to the Dean’s Office. Important criteria for this review will include: overall benefit to researchers in the area, the number of users that would benefit from the instrumentation, and quality of the plan to provide access and maintain the equipment.
The deadline to apply for Shared Instrumentation Funding is 10/15/2024. If awarded, requisitions must be in the UVA ordering system by 12/6/2024 and the item must be received and operational by 05/15/2025 to comply with timeline determined by the state of Virginia.
This program is made possible by an increase in total ETF funding apportioned to the School of Medicine by the Provost and a more strategic reallocation of ETF funds by the Dean’s Office to support the growing research mission. The program provides value to a broader group of researchers by:
- Purchasing equipment that is most important to users within a given area
- Providing ready access to all users in convenient locations
- Developing a maintenance plan for each instrument so that it remains available over its lifespan
