CNN recently interviewed William Brady, MD, who works in the Emergency Medicine department, on staying safe during a heatwave.
Dr. Brady says they are seeing an uptick in cases of heat exhaustion, usually in people who work or exercise outdoors. “We’re definitely seeing more patients that are coming in just not tolerating the heat,” he said. “We know that heat is uncomfortable when temperatures and humidity reach a certain height. But we’re not really used to being threatened by it the way other parts of the world have been. This is a potentially new issue that were beginning to face, and we need to pay attention to it because it is exceedingly dangerous.”
