Generative AI in Context

Seminar Speaker: Brian Wright, PhD, University of Virginia

Professor Brian Wright, PhD, will kick-off the 2023-2024 Biomedical Data Science Seminar with his talk: Generative AI in Context. Dr. Wright will discuss the road that led to the incredible explosion of Generative AI that we are currently experiencing. He will also talk about the high-level architectures that allow for Large Language Models to be so effective, as well as implications for research moving forward.

Dr. Wright is an Associate professor and Director of Undergraduate Programs in the School of Data Science at the University of Virginia. He is the founder of DS Labs LLC, a data science consultancy that focuses on educational program development, algorithm construction, and data science-focused research and development efforts. His research sits at the center of Education and Data Science, and he holds degrees in Economics, Public Administration, and Higher Education. He is currently working to develop predictive algorithms to increase Algebra 1 success in K-12 settings.
