NBME logoUVA is one of six institutions awarded a major educational research grant designed to evaluate and improve the continuum of medical education. The purpose of this grant is to answer a fundamental question – can we align medical school assessments with residency performance to inform and evaluate our medical school education practice?

The two-year, $150,000 grant is sponsored by the National Board of Medical Examiner’s Stemmler Fund, one of the most prestigious funding mechanisms in medical education. The grant is co-led by Yoon Soo Park, PhD, University of Illinois-Chicago, and Sally Santen, MD, PhD, University of Cincinnati and Virginia Commonwealth University, with local leadership by UVA’s site principal investigator Michael Ryan, MD, MEHP, and UVA’s data lead Jim Martindale, PhD.

UVA will join investigators from the University of Illinois, University of Cincinnati, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of California-Davis, University of Chicago, Sidney Kimmel University, and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
