On Sunday, May 19, it was an exhilarating day for the Class of 2024 School of Medicine students who graduated at the University of Virginia’s 195th Final Exercises. Despite overcast skies and soggy ground from intermittent rain showers, graduation began with the students’ iconic stroll from the Rotunda down the Lawn to Old Cabell Hall, and culminated with department and program celebrations throughout the day. The School of Medicine was proud to confer 144 MD, 39 PhD, and 98 Master’s degrees to well-deserving students in the 2023-24 academic year.

The Doctor of Medicine graduation ceremony was held at the Paramount Theater. In her remarks, Dean Melina Kibbe, MD, told the students, “Thank you, graduates, for allowing me to share in this momentous occasion. I have no doubt that you will go on to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, and I look forward to witnessing the impact you will undoubtedly have on the field of medicine.”

The Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences Hooding Ceremony took place on Sunday at McLeod Hall and the Public Health Sciences Master’s degree ceremony occurred at Culbreth Theater. The graduates were cheered on by their families, friends, and faculty who were thrilled to share in their special day.
