UVA Department of Anesthesiology has launched a new industry-sponsored clinical trial, HIPULSE, focused on cardiac output for cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CT-ICU) patients.
The purpose of this study is to compare cardiac output, fluid responsiveness, and related measurements between the Philips Advanced Monitoring Cuff (AMC) and Pulmonary Artery Catheters in CT -ICU/surgical patients. The Philips AMC is an FDA-regulated Class II (USA) medical device that is a non-invasive, disposable cuff with an integrated pneumatic actuator enabling hydraulic coupling of tissue pressure waveforms from the upper arm tissue.
Led by Principal Investigator Robert Thiele, MD, MBA, and Clinical Research Manager Jennifer Phillips, they have an incredible team of CRCs working diligently to recruit 2-3 patients per week and partner with the sponsor team to ensure accurate and compliant data collection.
