Please plan to attend the inaugural seminar, featuring Manning Institute Chief Scientific Officer Mark Esser, PhD, Tuesday, Feb. 17, 12 noon, in Pinn Hall Auditorium.

Molecules to Medicines will feature nationally recognized external speakers whose work exemplifies the full spectrum of translational science and medicine—individuals who excel at moving discoveries from fundamental molecular insights toward clinical application, therapeutic development, and real-world health impact. These speakers represent the phenotype of investigator that the new Manning Institute aims to foster: interdisciplinary, innovative, impact oriented, and deeply committed to turning scientific advances into meaningful outcomes for patients.

In addition to highlighting these leaders, Molecules to Medicines will offer attendees practical instruction in how to incorporate entrepreneurial thinking into their research. Sessions will address key aspects of translational success, such as identifying unmet clinical needs, developing intellectual property, engaging industry partners, navigating commercialization pathways, and advancing technologies toward clinical adoption. Researchers at all stages will gain actionable guidance on how to position their work for broader societal impact and participate more effectively in UVA’s innovation ecosystem.

By bringing together visionary scientists, experienced innovators, and members of our research community, Molecules to Medicines will serve as an essential platform for building skills, strengthening collaborations, and accelerating the pace at which discovery leads to better health.
