{"id":2458,"date":"2022-05-26T15:36:37","date_gmt":"2022-05-26T20:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/?p=2458"},"modified":"2022-05-26T15:36:37","modified_gmt":"2022-05-26T20:36:37","slug":"research-update-37","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/2022\/05\/26\/research-update-37\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Self-Compassion and Coping<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Self-compassion, a positive and caring attitude toward oneself, can contribute to positive coping in stressful situations.\u00a0 These authors analyzed the relationship between self-compassion and different forms of positive and negative coping based on the results of 136 prior studies including 38,913 participants.\u00a0 They found a positive association between self-compassion and adaptive coping and a negative association between self-compassion and maladaptive coping.\u00a0 The authors concluded that self-compassion is important for understanding the mechanisms involved in coping with stress and demanding life events. \u00a0The strongest association they identified was between increased self-compassion and decreased maladaptive coping.<\/p>\n<p>Ewert C, Vater A, Schro\u0308der-Abe\u0301 M.
