{"id":2401,"date":"2021-12-13T16:30:04","date_gmt":"2021-12-13T21:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/?p=2401"},"modified":"2021-12-13T16:31:02","modified_gmt":"2021-12-13T21:31:02","slug":"research-update-32","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/2021\/12\/13\/research-update-32\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Mindfulness-Based Mobile Health Intervention Improved Anxiety and Depression Symptoms Among University Students in Quarantine During The COVID-19 Pandemic<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from the US and China conducted this randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effect of a mindfulness-based mobile health intervention among university students (N = 114) with anxiety and\/or depressive symptoms.\u00a0\u00a0 The intervention was adapted for the pandemic and compared to a mobile social support program. The participants were undergoing quarantine for Covid-19 in China. \u00a0Compared to the social support program, the mindfulness intervention had a significantly greater effect on anxiety. Both programs improved depressive symptoms. Retention was over 80% in both groups.\u00a0 The mindfulness program was more feasible and acceptable with regard to engagement, evaluation, skills improvement, and perceived benefit.
