{"id":2047,"date":"2020-01-29T09:58:21","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T14:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/?p=2047"},"modified":"2020-01-29T10:02:27","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T15:02:27","slug":"research-update-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/2020\/01\/29\/research-update-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Changes in Mindfulness and Post traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms Among Veterans Enrolled in Mindfulness\u2010Based Stress Reduction<br \/>\nResearchers from the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Healthcare System and the University of Washington evaluated the association between mindfulness as measured by the Five Factor Mindfulness Scale and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among veterans participating in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses. They found that increases in mindfulness, specifically the factors of Acting with Awareness and No judging, were significantly associated with decreases in PTSD symptoms, especially hyperarousal and emotional numbing. They concluded that there are important connections between mindfulness and the symptoms of PTSD that support the role for mindfulness-based interventions in treating PTSD.<br \/>\nStephenson KR, et al.
