{"id":1459,"date":"2018-09-12T09:13:13","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T14:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/?p=1459"},"modified":"2019-04-01T12:42:00","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T17:42:00","slug":"mindfulness-can-reduce-burnout-among-healthcare-providers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/mindfulness\/2018\/09\/12\/mindfulness-can-reduce-burnout-among-healthcare-providers\/","title":{"rendered":"Mindfulness Can Reduce Burnout Among Healthcare Providers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Burnout has become a major issue for healthcare providers, with over half of all practicing physicians now meeting criteria for burnout.\u00a0\u00a0 A recent review of interventions to decrease burnout published in the journal <em>Lancet <\/em>concluded: \u201cThe most commonly studied interventions have involved mindfulness, stress management, and small group discussions, and the results suggest that these strategies can be effective approaches to reduce burnout domain scores. \u201c\u00a0 A study of a course offered through the UVa Mindfulness Center that incorporated all these elements and that was included in this review found that burnout scores decreased significantly among participants.\u00a0 This course, Mindfulness for Healthcare Providers, will be offered again starting September 26.<\/p>\n<p>West, et al.
