James F. Calland, MD<\/strong><\/a>, is an assistant professor of surgery at UVA with a clinical practice focused on trauma and emergency surgery. His research interests include surgical and trauma outcomes, injury prevention, and physiologic predictors of clinical decompensation.<\/p>\n

Dr. Calland completed a residency in surgery at UVA, and a fellowship in traumatology and surgical critical care at the University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

CME learning objectives: <\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Describe the current psychic state of the work environment created by their peers and institutional leadership.<\/li>\n
  2. Conceptualize the personal and institutional leadership skills required to develop and achieve worthy goals.<\/li>\n
  3. Gain insights into under-appreciated determinants of patient safety and organizational efficacy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Medicine Grand Rounds is offered every Wednesday throughout the year by the UVA Department of Medicine, in association with UVA\u2019s Office of Continuing Medical Education. CME credit is available; instructions and forms are available at the event.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
