Message From the Office of the Chair – March 2026

Taison Bell

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Spring may not be official yet, but after consulting the Vice Chairs, Division Administrators, and Division Chiefs, we’ve decided to claim it. However, if you happened to notice a few stubborn patches of dirty snow this week, I’d just like the record to reflect: I called it.

This month, we spotlight the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Imre Noth and his team share updates on impressive clinical growth, a thriving fellowship program—including the launch of UVA’s first-ever Sleep Medicine Fellowship—and a research portfolio that continues to expand in both reach and impact.

You’ll also see that our colleagues in Endocrinology and Metabolism achieved a clean sweep of the awards section. As always, our Department in Media section highlights faculty voices from across our divisions.

I also encourage you to take note of the 64th Annual Swineford Allergy Conference, returning April 17–18 (details inside). Finally, I’d like to highlight an independent fundraising effort tied to the Cville Ten Miler: Dr. Allison Lyons is participating on behalf of her son in support of his fight against leukemia.

My Best to You,
Taison D. Bell, MD, MBA
Interim Chair, Department of Medicine
