Welcome to this month’s Medicine Matters, where we highlight the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. This Division has a remarkable history with a long and robust research, education, and clinical excellence tradition. Faculty members within the Division have made notable discoveries that have changed the care for patients with diabetes, pituitary disease, metabolic bone disease, adrenal disorders, and many others. I am also proud that the Division has a strong group of young investigators who are so impressive in their passion and excellence. The Division has also seen some recent changes: Dr. Suzanne Jan de Beur was recruited as the Division Chief from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has recruited several top faculty members in her short time leading the Division. Her enthusiasm and energy have fueled an exciting new phase for the Division, where we aim to grow and develop new differentiating programs. In addition, we are bidding farewell to several key faculty members who have recently retired and are highlighted in this edition: Drs. Robert Carey, Eugene Barrett, Susan Kirk, and Chris McCartney. We thank them for their service and dedication and will miss them and wish them the best in the future. As you read through this edition, I am sure you will be impressed by this Division’s amazing faculty and staff!
With best wishes,
