Message from the Chair – March 2020

March Madness indeed! One look inside this edition of Medicine Matters will convince you that you need not watch basketball this March and instead concentrate on all of the activity in the Department of Medicine. Last month, the Department hosted students from Buford Middle School for a day of learning about careers in health professions. My deepest thanks to Brandon Kemp, Terri Washington, and our many staff members who served as leads for this critical event. Our future centers on exciting young people from diverse backgrounds to seek careers in medicine. In addition, we have our own version of March Madness led by Dr. Drew Harris in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The first 6 Minute Walk Race will no doubt garner huge ratings on local media and I am sure that there will be some fierce competition. I encourage all of you to participate and also to give generously to the Charlottesville Free Clinic. Lastly, this month we highlight the people and achievements of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine under the leadership of Dr. Imre Noth. Dr. Noth has accomplished a tremendous amount in his short time leading the Division as you will see in the newsletter. Happy March to all and spring is near!
