NEPHROLOGY STAFF PROFILE – Danielle Wentworth

Tell us a little about yourself?
I grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., and since leaving for college I’ve moved around quite a bit until settling here in Charlottesville about four years ago. I always wanted to be involved in medicine, and learned about the role of a nurse practitioner as a sophomore in college. I decided to pursue nursing from that day forward, and it’s been one of my best life decisions.

I love cooking, baking, hiking, and spending time with my husband, Brian, and our goofy golden retriever, Bailey. I’m also the Communications Chair for the Junior League of Charlottesville, President of my neighborhood’s HOA, and the leader of a social club for the partners & spouses of UVA hospital trainees, so outside of work I stay pretty busy! It’s nice to come home to relax and spend time with my family and watch Netflix.

Favorite places to travel?
I lived in Aix-en-Provence and Paris, France in college, and would love to go back someday. Recently, my husband and I took a trip to Maine, and had a fantastic time hiking through Acadia National Park and eating wild blueberry ice cream.

Next life?
Professional pastry chef.

How did you meet your partner?
Brian and I both met in undergrad at Vanderbilt. Although we had a lot of mutual friends, we really got to know each other through the Fencing Club. Brian fenced in high school and was very good… I had joined to try something new and to meet some cute guys. I guess my plan worked out well!
