Message from the Chair – September 2019 Medicine Matters Newsletter

Welcome back from summer! As the new academic year gets going in full swing, this month’s Medicine Matters highlights the Division of Nephrology. Of course, I must admit a certain deep fondness for this Division given that it is my home away from home. As you will see, the Division is a world leader in education, clinical care and research and under the leadership of Dr Mark Okusa (and Dr Kline Bolton before him) the Division has flourished. Most recently, we have welcomed many new faculty, some of whom are profiled here. The kidney transplant program has seen exponential growth under Dr Alden Doyle and is well positioned to be the leading program in the mid-Atlantic. Research in the Division has also grown significantly as shown by growth in extramural funding, high impact publications and international collaborations. This month’s Medicine Matters continues to celebrate our collective achievements and I hope you will enjoy reading the newsletter.

Lastly, in early September, I will give a short “state of the Department” presentation to highlight several of our year-end achievements. This will occur at the beginning of Medicine Grand Rounds….stay tuned for the date and time.
