The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism has teamed up with the Department of Telehealth and the Center for Diabetes Technology to start a new program “Innovate State and Local Public Health Strategies to Prevent and Manage Diabetes and Heart Disease and Stroke (InnoVAte)” to better prevent and manage chronic conditions that include diabetes, prediabetes and heart disease. This 5-year initiative is supported by a grant of >$750,000 from CDC and the Virginia Department of Health.

The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is involved in the following aspects of the program:

• Build capacity at UVA for Type II Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Technology Clinic

• Develop telehealth models of care for diabetes, diabetes prevention and cardiovascular risk reduction that are standards- and evidence-based for deployment by health systems across Virginia

• Expand delivery of telehealth and mobile health technology services to patients in hot-spot areas

• Provide training to health care providers across the Commonwealth in clinical topics, protocols, and use of telehealth technologies, including establishing ENDO ECHO
