2018 American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting Fellow Poster Presentations

Our fellowship was well represented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) conference held in December 2018 in San Diego, CA. A list of poster presentations presented during the meeting by our fellows include:

Daniel Reed, MD: “Oral regimen for urine alkalization in patients getting HD Methotrexate during shortage of IV bicarbonate”

Victor Orellana-Noia, MD: “Outcome of patient with aggressive B-cell lymphoma post salvage immune-chemotherapy following intensive first line treatment”

Puja Arora, MD: “Single institution experience of GI involved DLBCL: presentation, outcomes, and patterns of treatment failure”

Pooja Mehra, MD: “Outcomes of FL Pts treated with frontline BR: impact of histologic grade and early progression on overall survival”

 ASCO Quality Training Program

We sent two of our second year fellows, Daniel (Danny) Reed, MD and Erin McLoughlin, MD, to participate in the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) Quality Training Program (QTP). This is a six-month program designed to train physician-led teams to design and implement quality improvement projects at their home institutions. Both Danny and Erin’s projects, “Reducing Time to High Dose Methotrexate Administration on an Inpatient Oncology Ward” and “Development of a Standard Protocol to Address the High Incidence of Clinical Heart Failure in our Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia population” respectively, were aimed at addressing important issues frequently encountered on the inpatient hematology service.
