The Women in Internal Medicine Network (WIMN) group has had a busy spring, including a well-attended “Spring Fling” event at Kardinal Hall (“Beer, Bocce, Food & Fun”), and a Leadership series with talks (thus far) on negotiation and communication by UVA experts. In February, WIMN hosted a panel discussion for undergraduate UVA women.
Coming up: The School of Medicine’s Committee on Women and DOM’s WIMN will join forces to co-sponsor a series called “Coffee and Collaboration,” aimed at promoting networking among women across the School. Topics for discussion will include professional development, promotion and tenure, work/life balance, planning for retirement, elder care, and family care. The first meeting will be May 11th, 4:30-5:30 in Pinn Hall (G1 & G2); there will not be a specific agenda, in order to gauge the interests of participants. In the future, meetings will focus on one or two topics. These gatherings are open to all women in the School of Medicine. (If you wish to attend, register here.)
Many thanks to all the DOM women who have participated in these events, and to WIMN’s leadership team for organizing them: GI faculty members Jeanetta Frye and Anne Tuskey, and DOM director of education Joy Hilton. Erin Arnold, a member of the DOM education team, has done great work on WIMN’s website and e-mail communications.

Coming up: a “Diversity & Inclusion” event for medical students, at Boylan Heights on the Corner on April 20th. Contact WIMN (rwomeninmedicinenetwork@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu) for more details.
