Strong Showing by UVA Residents at ACP-Virginia Meeting in Charlottesville

“A big congrats to all of our residents who presented at the American College of Physicians (ACP) Virginia Chapter meeting in Charlottesville on March 2. Everyone did a fantastic job and represented our program very strongly. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into this. A special shout-out and congrats to those who won awards for their work:

– In the Clinical Vignettes category:

  • Doug Thaggard won first place for “Statin-Induced Necrotizing Autoimmune Myopathy as an Emerging Cause of Proximal Muscle Weakness”
  • Josh Reuss won second place for “Acute Hypersensitivity to Crotalidae Polyvalent Immune Fab as Initial Presentation of Galactose-Alpha-1,3-galactose Allergy”

– In the Research category, Sean Fortier won second place for “Plasma Biomarkers of Interstitial Lung Disease in Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome”
– In the Quality Improvement category, Derek Kruse won second place for “Is this Patient Sick? Physician Assessment versus Early Warning Scores in Predicting Patient Decompensation”

As a first-place winner, Doug receives an all-expense-paid trip to the national ACP meeting in New Orleans in 2018. The others received monetary awards.”

Sumit Agarwal, an internal medicine resident in his third year, was chosen as the hospital’s resident nominee for the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Congratulations Sumit.

Adam Carlson, Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology, was voted by the residents as UVA’s nomination for the ACP Virginia Chapter outstanding academic educator. Congratulations Dr. Carlson!”
