Kenneth M. Ludmerer, MD, is the Mabel Dorn Reeder Distinguished Professor in the History of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. An internist, he is best known for his work in medical education and health care policy. His books include Learning to Heal (1985), on the creation of America’s system of medical education, and Time to Heal (1999), on the evolution of American medical education from the turn of the century to the present era of managed care. The latter book was called “a masterpiece of great national importance” by one reviewer; both books were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the Bancroft Prize.
CME learning objectives:
