Hillary S. Maitland, MD, is assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology at UVA. Her research focuses on hemostasis and thrombosis.
CME learning objectives:
- Be able to distinguish heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) from heparin-associated thrombocytopenia (HAT).
- Be able to use the 4 T’s scoring system to develop a pretest probability for HIT.
- Understand the role of alternative anticoagulants in the treatment of HIT or HIT with thrombosis (HITT).
