Matthew Wolf, MD, PhD, an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was elected a fellow of the prestigious American Society for Clinical Investigation in December 2016. His election will be finalized at the ASCI’s April 2017 meeting.

Dr. Wolf, who was recruited to UVA from Duke in 2015 and directs the UVA Heart Center’s cardiovascular genetics program, conducts research on the genetic causes of cardiomyopathy.

“I feel deeply honored to become a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation,” commented Dr. Wolf. “This recognition is a reflection of the great mentorship I have received, and continue to receive, as a physician-scientist engaged in biomedical research. I would like to thank all my mentors, colleagues, and trainees for making research an exciting endeavor.”

ASCI-seal-hi-resFounded in 1908, the American Society for Clinical Investigation is one of the oldest and most esteemed nonprofit honor societies of physician-scientists. “Prospective members are proposed by standing members of the society and elected to ASCI on the basis of an outstanding record of scholarly achievement in biomedical research,” according to the ASCI website. DOM chair Mitch Rosner remarked that being elected a member of the ASCI is one of the “highest honors for a young clinical investigator.”

The society has about 3,000 members, and some 60 to 70 new members are elected each year.

Dr. Wolf received his MD from Washington University in St. Louis, and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Duke University.
