James F. Calland, MD, is an assistant professor of surgery at UVA with a clinical practice focused on trauma and emergency surgery. His research interests include surgical and trauma outcomes, injury prevention, and physiologic predictors of clinical decompensation.

Dr. Calland completed a residency in surgery at UVA, and a fellowship in traumatology and surgical critical care at the University of Pennsylvania.


CME learning objectives:

  1. Describe the current psychic state of the work environment created by their peers and institutional leadership.
  2. Conceptualize the personal and institutional leadership skills required to develop and achieve worthy goals.
  3. Gain insights into under-appreciated determinants of patient safety and organizational efficacy.
