Dr. Swaminathan is an associate professor of medicine in the UVA Division of Nephrology. His research interests include iron metabolism, macrophages, fibrosis, vascular calcification and progressive kidney diseases.

CME learning objectives:

  1. Discuss iron-mediated cell death mechanisms (ferroptosis) and its relevance to cell death and immortality (cancer).
  2. Present novel therapeutic approaches to modulate iron metabolism to prevent and treat AKI.
