Kayla Calvo, administrative assistant for Mo Nadkarni, MD, chief of the Division of General, Geriatric, Palliative & Hospital Medicine, received DOM’s employee of the month award for October 2015.

According to division administrator Cynthia Smith-Power, after a relatively short time in her position (less than two years) Kayla has quickly become the “gold standard” for administrative support: “She is a person of tremendous talent; that, along with an incredible work ethic and insatiable curiosity, has quickly gained her the respect of division leadership. I have leaned on her many times to take the lead on challenging projects; her ‘Be Safe’-related work, in particular, has been impressive, and has resulted in changes in administrative processes and procedures.”

Mo Nadkarni also praises Kayla, saying she “routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty to make sure all work is done right. She is wonderful at anticipating needs and thinking beyond the work that is right in front of her. She has a dynamic, welcoming personality which is perfect for the division chief’s assistant position. She has made me more efficient and organized by working with her!”

Another division faculty member, Clint Merritt, MD, who is medical director for the division’s hospital medicine section, says that while  Kayla does not have direct responsibilities for the division’s hospitalist practice, “you would think otherwise day to day. She steps forward to provide assistance to me and our team on a weekly, even daily, basis — and I am very thankful for all of the extra help she provides. She displays a high interest in learning and seeks out responsibilities and projects that are new to her. When a task or problem is presented, she is effective, thorough and prompt, and she always communicates back what is accomplished, asking if anything else is needed. She clearly cares deeply about the quality of her work, and our division benefits greatly from having her on the team.”

Congratulations Kayla!
