CV Fellow Will Dresen, MD

W DRESEN

Will in Yukon Basin, Alaska

I grew up in Ocala, Florida, and finally left the Sunshine State for my medicine residency and fellowship. I’ve been at UVA now for two and a half years, with plans to start my electrophysiology fellowship here this July. I have three younger sisters and I live in Charlottesville with my wife and two dogs.

Why cardiovascular medicine?

I studied engineering in college, and intuitively, for me, the heart just makes a little more sense. My most prominent mentors growing up and through training have been in this field. Plus, we have some of the coolest toys in medicine!

Why UVA?

The people, first and foremost; I felt very comfortable here from my interview day onwards. And the training opportunities are fantastic. I’m not a big city guy, and Charlottesville has a lot to offer, without all the big city headaches.

Proudest achievement outside the professional realm?

Making the Fairbanks 60” club several years ago!!

What are you usually doing in your spare time?

Working on remodeling projects around our house and assuming damage control for our out-of-control dogs. Other than that, we like to get out and explore some of the surrounding mountains and trails.  There are a ton of great places to see within an hours’ drive of Charlottesville.

What’s one thing you always have in your fridge?

Honestly, beer. If not for my wife that may be the only thing in there.

Where did you go on your last vacation?

Alaska. My wife gets to go home, see her parents and friends. In the meantime I get to explore some of the prettiest country in the world. What more could a guy ask for?

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I’d like to pick up sailing at some point in time.

Words to live by?

The higher the climb, the better the view.
