Neeral Shah, MD, an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, has been featured in media outlets across Virginia and on national TV stations discussing the connection between alcohol consumption and cancer.
Alcohol is a carcinogen that can increase cancer risk by directly damaging liver cells. Dr. Shah says this is concerning and should serve as a warning sign. “We probably need to look at updating the warning labels on alcohol. Number two, I think we need to reassess what the limits are for men and women in taking alcohol on a daily basis,” said Dr. Shah.
