Catherine Varney, DO, an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine, was featured on TV stations nationally discussing the potential for Medicare to cover weight-loss medications.
Medicare may potentially cover weight loss and diabetes medications like Ozempic and Wegovy in the future. These drugs were included with 15 others for price negotiations.
“There’s so much overall benefit to the population for people using this and that are in need for this and cost is a huge issue,” says Dr. Varney. “You know they’ve done multiple studies showing that cost is a big barrier for a lot of patients starting and staying on this medication.”
