{"id":3239,"date":"2022-03-02T10:53:14","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T14:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/?p=3239"},"modified":"2022-03-02T10:53:14","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T14:53:14","slug":"communications-council-have-your-voice-be-heard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/communications-council-have-your-voice-be-heard\/","title":{"rendered":"Communications Council: Have Your Voice Be Heard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Samantha C Minnicozzi, MD, Attending Pediatric Allergy and Immunology\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Communications Council?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Council is a group of faculty, assembled thanks to Anne Mills and others, to bring concerns to leadership and transmit information back to our peers regarding targeted topics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is on the Council?<br \/>\n<\/strong>A group of us in Pediatrics were nominated by Dr. Nataro from both General Pediatrics, as well as other subspecialties within the Department, to ensure a variety of perspectives would be represented and facilitate conversations regarding topics currently affecting the health system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What types of information do you discuss?<br \/>\n<\/strong>This month, we are discussing the financial fallout of from the Washington Post article and what our institution has done to both remedy past wrongs, as well as prevent future occurrences. In January, we discussed the COVID 19 financial fall out.<\/p>\n<p>During these meetings, we are given the chance to ask questions directly with our leadership in a small group forum, including Wendy Horton, Craig Kent, and Melina Kibbe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your role?<br \/>\n<\/strong>My role in our representation at the Communication Council is to disseminate this information to Dr. Nataro and other members of our Department in a concise email. They are encouraged to pass along the information to their specific divisions.<\/p>\n<p>I also collect questions and topics to bring to future Council meetings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can someone reach out to share a question or topic?<br \/>\n<\/strong>So far, I\u2019ve had peers and colleagues reach out through in-person conversations and email. If you have something you\u2019d like me to bring to administration, please reach out to me or other members of the Council so we can make sure all questions and feedback is heard.
