For the 8<sup>th<\/sup> year in a row, the Neonatology program at the University of Virginia was included in the list of<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3033 size-medium\" style=\"text-align: center\" src=\"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/files\/2021\/06\/Badge-ChildrensHospitals-Neonatology-Year-265x300.png\" alt=\"best children's hospitals us news and world report neonatology 2021-22\" width=\"265\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/files\/2021\/06\/Badge-ChildrensHospitals-Neonatology-Year-265x300.png 265w, https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/files\/2021\/06\/Badge-ChildrensHospitals-Neonatology-Year-768x870.png 768w, https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/files\/2021\/06\/Badge-ChildrensHospitals-Neonatology-Year-177x200.png 177w, https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/files\/2021\/06\/Badge-ChildrensHospitals-Neonatology-Year.png 835w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>the Top 50 programs. This year, UVA Neonatology was ranked #36 in the nation. With this announcement, UVA Neonatology is one of just 31 NICUs to have achieved that distinction since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>New this year, USNWR also ranked children\u2019s hospitals for each state. UVA Children\u2019s was ranked #1 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. \u201cWe love being ranked by the USNWR! It allows us to brag before a national audience about the great care we provide. We know it, and we are proud of it, but like a proud parent, we love to show off!\u201d said Dr. Jim Nataro, the Benjamin Armistead Shepherd Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Robert Sinkin, Division Head of Neonatology and Professor of Pediatrics said, \u201cWe strive to ensure that our most vulnerable patients are receiving the best possible care. Receiving national recognition for this tremendous team effort is truly gratifying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAchieving this ranking recognizes the hard work and care that every member of the Division and the NICU put forth,\u201d said Dr. Jonathan Swanson, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Director of the NICU. He went on to say, \u201cThe team\u2019s hard work and investment in quality is seen in our outcomes, especially around central line associated blood stream infections, as well as unplanned extubations, which are well below national benchmarks. However, our work is not done. We are continually looking for ways to improve to ensure that our patients receive the highest-quality care and the USNWR rankings is just one way we can see where those opportunities lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides Neonatology, other programs that were ranked in the 2021-2022 US News &amp; World Report Best Children\u2019s Hospital survey were Cardiology &amp; Cardiac Surgery (#37), Diabetes and Pediatric Endocrinology (#42), Pediatric Orthopedics (#43) and Pediatric Urology (#43-tied).
