{"id":230,"date":"2013-04-30T20:36:27","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T00:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/?p=230"},"modified":"2013-07-02T16:47:56","modified_gmt":"2013-07-02T20:47:56","slug":"graduating-fellows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/graduating-fellows\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s Next for Our Graduating Pediatric Fellows?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Dr. Joel Vanderford<\/strong> <\/em>is moving to Kampala, Uganda to be the Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist at Mulago Hospital through the Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan\u2019s Purse. Originally, doctors at Mulago Hospital helped with echos only, but now the team at Mulago includes two Pediatric TCV surgeons, Interventional Diagnostic Pediatric Cardiology, and of course Pediatric Echocardiography \u2013 but Dr. Vanderford will be the first intensivist. The team in Mulago has been able to close ASDs, VSDs, and PDAs. They fixed their first TOF two months ago.Dr. Vanderford is moving to Uganda with his wife who will teach high school science at Heritage International School where his children Caleb, 6, and Kianna, 4.5, will attend school. They hope to stay in Uganda at least two years. Dr. Vanderford served in Northwest Kenya and Southern Sudan for two years prior to medical school, and it has always been his dream to return.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dr. Michelle Adu-Darko<\/strong> <\/em>has been a PICU fellow at UVA and hopes to stay on as part of the faculty in PICU. She completed medical school in Ghana and then her residency in Pediatrics in 2010 at the Children&#8217;s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey. She is married and has a 5-year-old son.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dr. Jeffrey Vergales<\/strong> <\/em>will be staying on as faculty at the University of Virginia in Pediatric Cardiology.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dr. Valentina Intagliata<\/strong> <\/em>will stay on as faculty at UVA in the Developmental Pediatrics and General Pediatrics divisions. She plans to work with children who have a range of developmental issues and will help start a Spanish-speaking General Pediatrics Clinic. She will also co-head the Costa Rica Exchange Program with Dr. Amy Brown.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dr. J. Bryan Carmody<\/strong> <\/em>will be moving to Norfolk, VA, to work as a pediatric nephrologist at the Children\u2019s Hospital of the King\u2019s Daughters and as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Joel Vanderford is moving to Kampala, Uganda to be the Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist at Mulago Hospital through the Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan\u2019s Purse.
