Educational innovation and scholarship are significant elements within the core mission of the University of Virginia School of Medicine.\u00a0The school encourages all faculty members who are engaged in education to develop themselves as professional educators who are knowledgeable about educational theory and its application, and who continually sharpen their knowledge and skills both in clinical and classroom teaching and assessment and in curriculum improvement.\u00a0To that end, the school has created broad internal and external opportunities for faculty development that are available to all members of the faculty.<\/p>\n

The Educational Fellowship Awards provide release time of up to 100% for limited time for faculty to develop teaching and learning innovations in the NxGen Curriculum or innovations including the NxGen Curriculum and other educational programs, e.g., with BIMS or public heath programs. Additional funding may be requested for necessary supplies if needed to develop the innovation. Funding awarded will support a specific percentage of effort (depending on request and availability of funds) for a specifically determined timeline that is sufficient for development of the innovation.<\/p>\n

Faculty interested in applying for a fellowship award should submit to the School of Medicine Curriculum Committee (dji@virginia.edu<\/a>) a letter of intent describing the innovation and its benefit to the NxGen curriculum, which will generate discussion, feedback and potential endorsement.\u00a0The deadlines for letter submission are May 1 and October 1<\/strong> of each year.\u00a0 Letters should not exceed one page.\u00a0No application will be considered for funding without Curriculum Committee endorsement because medical school accreditation standards require the curriculum committee to approve all curricular changes. If endorsed, a more\u00a0complete 3 – 5 page application will be due May 27<\/strong>. We look forward to your innovative proposals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
