{"id":1295,"date":"2014-10-20T10:14:08","date_gmt":"2014-10-20T14:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/?p=1295"},"modified":"2014-10-20T10:16:53","modified_gmt":"2014-10-20T14:16:53","slug":"be-safe-project-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/be-safe-project-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"BeSafe Project Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Team Members,<\/p>\n<p>A BeSafe project led by Surgery resident, Jake Gillen, MD, has produced new paging etiquette standards that are now being introduced throughout UVA Health System. The new standards have evolved from the use of our A3 problem solving tool and are designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of pager communications related to patient care. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/kidsmatter\/files\/2014\/10\/PagingEtiquetteStandards.pdf\">PagingEtiquetteStandards<\/a> also support our efforts to create a work environment where all communications are courteous and based on mutual respect.<\/p>\n<p>The interdepartmental, multidisciplinary team that developed the new standards has produced a light-hearted video, <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/107285451\">UVA Paging Etiquette Standards<\/a>, describing the paging problems that their project seeks to eliminate. A one-page summary of the new paging standards is attached, and further information will be made available during clinical team huddles. I commend the paging etiquette team for their commitment to patient care and for making an important contribution to the continuous improvement work of our organization. And, I encourage everyone with pagers to begin adopting these new standards immediately. A key aim of BeSafe is to empower front line team members to identify and address areas of improvement that can enhance safety and eliminate waste in our environment.
