Announcing a contest on the theme of “Decisions.” Hospital Drive, the literature, arts, and humanities magazine of the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine, is awarding prizes of $500 each in the categories of poetry, prose, and visual art. Submissions should relate in some way to the theme of “Decisions” in the context of healthcare (wellness, illness, caregiving, etc.) We welcome submissions nationwide from the public as well as healthcare professionals and educators. Deadline is August, 2016. Winning entries and selected finalists will be published in the Fall online edition of Hospital Drive.
Submit up to 8 images (total file size of 3m or smaller for submission, but higher resolution for publication), 5 pages of poetry, or 15 pages of prose (5,000 words maximum, 12 point font) on the theme of “Decisions” interpreted broadly in the context of healthcare (whether in illness, wellness, caregiving, etc.). Fee of $5.00 per submission, through Submittable – https://hospitaldrive.submittable.com/submit
We conform to the CLMP code of ethics. Our submissions are read blindly, and final decisions are made by our editors. Close friends, relatives, students, and former students of our editors, readers, and staff are excluded from the contest. If any of the selected authors fall under these categories they will be disqualified, and a replacement will be chosen from among the finalists. Acquaintance and participation in a workshop with one of our readers, editors, or staff are not a disqualifying factor, so long as none of the works submitted is recognizable. Please visit our website for a current listing of our editors and staff.
Deadline is August 15 2016.
