Xuemei Huang, MD, PhD
Xuemei Huang, MD, PhD, chair of the UVA Department of Neurology, has been named one of 100 People to Meet in 2025 by Virginia Business. Dr. Huang is an innovative physician-scientist and educator whose leadership and experience is strengthening neurology research and patient care across Virginia.
Dr. Huang is originally from rural Beijing, China, and was the first person in her family to attend high school. She initially wanted to study math in college, but her parents encouraged her to become a doctor as a tangible way to help people.
After moving to the U.S. more than 20 years ago, Dr. Huang has made an incredible impact in the field of neurology and Parkinson’s disease research. She joined UVA on August 1, 2024, bringing a passion for improving our community’s access to neurological care and accelerating research that will make a difference patients’ lives.
