Congratulations to School of Medicine faculty who were nationally recognized for their outstanding contributions and expertise in their fields.
Jayakrishna Ambati, MD, was honored on The Ophthalmologist’s 2026 Power List for his groundbreaking research. Dr. Ambati is the founding director of UVA’s Center for Advanced Vision Science and the Dupont Guerry, III, Professor and vice chair for research in the UVA Department of Ophthalmology.
The American College of Medical Toxicology recognized Christopher Holstege, MD, with an Outstanding Contributions to Medical Toxicology Education award at ACMT’s Annual Scientific meeting in Boston, MA, in March. Dr. Holstege is a professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, chief of the Division of Medical Toxicology, senior associate vice president of Student Health & Wellness, and director of the Blue Ridge Poison Center. He is also president-elect of the America’s Poison Control Centers Board of Directors
J. Kim Penberthy, PhD, was selected as a Fellow for the University Psychedelic Education Program, a philanthropically supported initiative that equips university faculty across disciplines with the knowledge, resources, and community to integrate evidence-based psychedelic content into their curricula. Dr. Penberthy is the Chester F. Carlson Professor of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences, associate director of the Clinician Wellness Program, and a member of the Office of Team Wellbeing at UVA School of Medicine and UVA Health.
