“I am honored to serve on the VPHA Board of Directors,” said Dr. Gurka. “Since my return to Virginia two years ago, I have seen how much VPHA does to advance public health in the Commonwealth. I am excited to further strengthen our department’s ties to the Virginia public health community through this role and contribute in any way I can during this critical time in public health.”
VPHA’s mission is to improve public health in Virginia by strengthening public health practice, fostering health equity, and promoting sound public health policy. Founded in 1950, VPHA champions strong public health practices and policies by partnering with the Virginia Department of Health. It also works with public health programs across Virginia to support the next generation of public health professionals. Through public health research, policy analysis, and advocacy, VPHA continues to positively impact public health outcomes in our state.
